Well, I’ll be darned…

July 5th, 2010 · No Comments · Bike

so i decided to go the SoCal RX club meet yesterday to meet up with Alvaro real quick since i had a couple about my bike. the issue right now is that the rear brakes don’t relieve itself after i release the right brake lever for the rear calipers. definitely there’s some friction in there or something so his suggestion is just lube up the cables (or what i had in mind) or replace them with fresh brake cables and just lube them up. he suggested i should it up Performance Bicycle for a brake cable set. i totally forgot about that place. xP

anywho, i also had another issue with the bike – the brake levers were loose.

(the brake levers used to be super low on the handlebars when i barely got the bike. of course, back then i didn’t know much about the bike and the “rights & wrongs”.

here’s a pic of my first blog post about the bike. really “in-ergonomic” for the brake lever’s position on the handlebars.)

the brake levers were loose because i broke them “loose” by hammering the heck out of them. even then, i didn’t know how to loosen up the clamps that held them onto the handlebars. i did do some research online to try to see how they look and there was no screw or whatever to loosen it whatsoever… or at least i thought so…

i asked Alvaro to take a look at the brake levers and he took was stumped. that was, until he saw a small hole in front of the lever.

i too have seen this hole present on the lever but little did i know what it’s for. just thought it was for the brake line or something. but Alvaro pointed that if you look straight into it, an allen wrench small enough catches an allen wrench screw which loosens and tightens the clamp. -____- oh well, we live and learn, right?! xP

here’s a size difference between the allen wrenches. the bigger one is a 5mm that adjusts the seat while the smaller one is for the brake levers and the bottle holder allen screws.

used to the small ones to tighten up the brake lever clamps and eureka! they are no longer loose! xP definitely something new i learned and  will always be aware of from here on out. =P i still should replace the brake lines though…

cheers.
