Track Classic

May 14th, 2012 · music & entertainment, Transportation

If you haven’t wandered over to Grandmighty recently, you should to take a gander at the new Mini residing inside Professor X’s garage. That’s all I’m free to speak of it, I’ll let him reveal all in due time, this video just made me think of his car. Nowhere near the same car, but they share similar fates. It’s nice for people to take care of their old school rides, but just cause she’s old doesn’t mean you can’t stretch out her legs. In the case of  the Mini and this Skyline, that is clearly not an issue. I love seeing old cars still performing not just resting in parking lots / meets / shows so fat guys can talk about “back in the day” they may be old, but they can still pack a punch. Enjoy the video.

Peace.

Crab Cakes and a Wagon

May 14th, 2012 · eye candy, JS - Just Sayin, Transportation

Not quite certain what triggered this, but after my BBQ yesterday, I had the craziest craving for crab cakes. If you’ve never had a crab cake, I don’t know what to tell you.  It’s like crab in little cake form that taste like magic in your mouth. If I haven’t already proved this on here, I’m the type of person that will totally go out of my way to get whatever I want. That being said, I could’ve got crab cakes in SF which is just about 20 minutes away from my house, but I wanted some crab cakes from Monterey. After visiting my wonderful Inang (grandma) for Mother’s Day, my cousin Phil and I were able to convince my cousin Bev to join us on this adventure with one trendy, terrible, but true word; “YOLO!” haha.

The drive down was nice and easy, took 17 with an enthusiastic style of driving, nothing too spirited; Highway 1 was scenic as usual, and upon arrival an array of “no left turns” left us driving in circles around the wharf and downtown Monterey before actually finding parking. We met up with our cousin Morgan who goes to school down there and ate at Isabella’s. This place didn’t have the highest amount of stars on Yelp, but yelp critics are idiots as far as their star ratings go, some will deduct a star because they didn’t like the view at wherever they were, which has nothing to do with the food quality, the main reason you should be criticizing a food place in the first place. I tend to actually reading a few reviews, which people tend to actually show more truthful way of rating.; this place had what seemed like the most enthusiasm for there clam chowder, and a few mentions on the crab cakes.  Good enough for me since most people go to this ocean side city’s more for chowder than cakes. All of us ordered clam chowder in bread bowls. The chowder here had a thick consistency and tasted great. My cousin Phil and I shared a house special pasta that consisted of lobster tail, crab meat, tiger shrimp, and scallops… it was AMAZING and in my mind worth the $37 tag. The real reason for my trip though were the crab cakes, though small, the crab cakes here had a good flavor and went excellent with the bits of mango they were served with. Good job Isabella’s!

Crab Cakes!!!

Random stop on the Pier

Almost all the way home going through Fremont on 880 I ran into a blue EF Civic Wagon. He pulled up in front of me and judging by his koni yellows and the tidy nature of his cars movement. I knew he wasn’t one of the bullshit/hype/trendy kids all riding around in their half assed set up cars. So to top off the night, I gave him a nod and we had a go at it, yeah, sure, not the most mature thing to do.. but before you excessively judge me, the road was clear and I pretty much let off  around 80 which is slower than a lot of people’s normal cruising speed. Did this twice in both cases he pulled on me slowly. We both then took the same exit where I was able to find out he was running a mildly tuned B18c whereas I have a stock B18c both running  b16 trannys. Cool guy, run into you later bro.

With good food and a good car encounter, my cousins and I headed to Tap-ex to get some boba. I topped this good day off with a coconut snow bubble.  As I’ve said before, life can be made more simple with this notion, “Figure out what you want, go get it!” Everything in between is just work, don’t focus on that, eye on the prize and in the end, you should end up with a smile.

Till next time.. One!

Halted again

May 9th, 2012 · eye candy, JS - Just Sayin, Transportation

It seems as if, everytime I promise more activity, more content; something radical occurs and thats all put to a halt. Quick brief of what happened in the past month. I was doing pull ups, the apparatus I was on broke and I fell about 5.5″ straight onto my left back/side. Bruised ribs effected my work out schedule for the past month, there is no longer sharp pain, but it’s still a bit tender. Just starting to get back into my regular routine this week.

As far as the car goes, she’s still unnamed, for some reason I didn’t pass smog by a pinch. Doing a lot of tune up lately: spark plugs, wires, distributor, oil change, etc. Hopefully she’ll pass this next time around. Mod wise, I got my brakes properly set, Jerome never replaced the booster/master cylinder, so I took care of that, along with some stoptech stainless steel braided brake lines and Motul rbf600 brake fluid. I also installed a Recaro Profi SPG bucket seat. car drives very nicely, She looks pretty much the same though.

Here’s the latest pic of the whip… till next time…

Make it count

April 17th, 2012 · JS - Just Sayin, music & entertainment

I truly appreciate media like this. I know too many people that have way too much focus on worrying about stuff that in the end, doesn’t really matter. I mean sure, everyone’s got bills, people need to work, you’ve got to be a responsible piece of society; save a little for the future, but don’t forget to live your life. I’m not a role model citizen or anything, but I can honestly say some of the most enjoyable times have been just simple ways of enjoying life. Friends ask you to go on a trip out of the blue, how about saying “sure, why not.” I already know there’s going to be holes in this reasoning, but I’m not here to type my complete theory or verdict of why you should enjoy life, I’m too busy enjoying my own. Actually, I do have one theory, the people that hate on this post are the ones that have the most difficulty enjoying life and are too busy stressing out on ways to just get through it.

Pacquiao for Hennessy

April 3rd, 2012 · eye candy, JS - Just Sayin

As previously mentioned, I’m a fan of marketing strategy. When I drink, I can easily admit I’m a fan of cognac’s and Hennessy in particular. I’ve rarely met Filipinos that do not like Hennessy. Acquiring Manny Pacquiao for their campaign is sure fire way to fill in the void of those who haven’t yet found a liking to this magical elixir that creates bouts of exemplary enjoyment at any place or event that joy may not be naturally occurring. I see you Hennessy, and you’re last message.

Which is why, when I choose  Hennessy, Privilege, is the only way I fly.

Awakening the Beast : Day 6

March 28th, 2012 · JS - Just Sayin, Transportation

Nothing really happened on day 5, just a lot of driving, feeling out the car.

Day 6:

Fixed a few minor issues. First off the car had no cat on, just a test pipe, so I took a short drive to my friends shop got her on the lift, and he put the catalytic on with a buddyclub spec 2 exhaust. While she was up in the air also threw on a gsr strong bar. The tachometer would bounce a bit, again, fortunately for me, my friend had an extra gauge cluster, so it got swapped out, along with a JDM amber clock also just because he had it. One of the main reasons to work on the car this day was because of a fishy radiator, it wasn’t obviously leaking, but it looks like it leaked once in a while do to traces of dried coolant residue on certain areas of the radiator, either way, the radiator has now been switched out for a unit that I can trust.  Just a minor touch, my friend tossed the hood bra on. I like it, it breaks up the color just a tad.

New Cluster, yeah, high mileage, but it works and was around the same as the one already in there

Hood bra and how she sits right now

Again, as projects are they’re never fully settled, even now, I have to pull the cluster again because this one has a bad speed sensor and the speedometer goes out. I’ll take the good tach and put it into the old cluster w/ the good speedo. Car misfires a bit, igniter is going out, so that will be changed soon. It’s small things that get annoying, but anything worth having always takes work. Till next time…

Awakening the Beast : Day 2-4

March 22nd, 2012 · eye candy, Transportation

This first week of owning the car (still yet to be named) has been fairly productive. Aside from small hiccups showing themselves, all minor issues will be taken care of soon. Changing around parts and getting it to my liking slowly but surely. Here’s whats been done so far.

Day 2:
The car came on a very popular suspension combination, the infamous koni/ground control setup. Unfortunately for me, this car was previously very show, very low and as what many call stanced. I’m cool with that scene and appreciate the beauty, but what that meant for me is the shocks were pretty much toast and the ride quality suffered. Luckily, I had sold my friend Chris Tein Type RA Race coilovers that were supposed to go on my old Integra Type R. Unfortunately for Chris, he had a fairly moderate accident with his EG and fortunately for me, Chris is an awesome friend and lent me back the suspension setup for the meantime, thanks buddy. The car rides pretty awesome, but now I need tires to match this suspension/brake combo.

The old konis

Now on Tein Type RA ITR spec

Day 3:
Nothing major, friend had a Circuit Hero shifter extender, threw it on and reduced my reach from steering wheel to shifter. It’s nice little touch for when you’re on a curvy road or track and shifting every couple seconds.

Day 4:
Came up on a genuine Spoon  carbon duckbill wing. Just small visual touch, I don’t plan to go too crazy on the looks department as far as exterior accessories. Just Spoon out the car maybe with a Spoon lip and SW388′s. Also, my friend Gabe hooked it up w/ a spare deck he had because the car came with no tunes installed. Thanks bro.

Day 3/4 deck and shift extender

Spoon wing and functional ride height

Well, that’s all for now, next couple benjamins are going to be spent on mostly maintenance. Actually, I have a few more parts to throw on, probably Friday aka Day 6.  Hopefully I can maintain a steady stream of improving this car both to satisfy my desires and to have content to continue updating this blog. Till next time folks, adios!
